PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

(WHL)

The Prince George Cougars host the (8-12) Kelowna Rockets tonight to begin a five-game homestand.

The two teams have split their first four meetings, each winning on the road and at home.

The Cougars have allowed just three goals in their last four games.

The Rockets are 4-2 since Adam Foote took over as head coach.

Kelowna is just a point back of Seattle for the last wild-card spot.

The 8-8-1-2 Cougars are third in the BC Division, just a point behind Victoria, although the Royals have three games in hand.

PG is also three points in front of Kelowna and five ahead of last-place Kamloops.

 

PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

(BCHL)

The Prince George Spruce Kings head to Vancouver Island for three games this weekend.

They play the (13-10) Kings Friday in Powell River, the (8-15-1) Bulldogs Saturday in Alberni Valley and the (9-13) Clippers Sunday in Nanaimo.

The 15-7-0-1 Spruce Kings are tied with the Coquitlam Express for second in the Mainland Division, five points behind the Chilliwack Chiefs with two games in hand on the Chiefs.

Prince George will play its next home game on Wednesday, Nov. 21st against Trail.

 

CARIBOO COUGARS:

(BCMML)

The Cariboo Cougars will play in the BC Hockey Major Midget League’s first Outdoor Game on Sunday, January 20th in the Fort St. James area on the Nak’azdli Whut’en Territory.

They will face the Vancouver North East Chiefs in the Northern Winter Classic at the Ernie Sam Memorial Arena, which has been outfitted with professional boards and regulation glass.

The 9-3-2 Cariboo Cougars, riding a seven-game win streak, visit the (7-5-1-1) Greater Vancouver Canadians Saturday night at 5 and Sunday morning at 10 in Richmond.

Cariboo is in fourth place, but just a point behind second and third, and only three points behind the (11-2-1) first place Fraser Valley Thunderbirds.

The Cariboo Cougars will again spend their Christmas holidays in Alberta.

For the 14th consecutive year, the Major Midget Cougars have been invited to the prestigious Macs International Hockey Tournament, which begins Boxing Day in Calgary.

 

CARIBOO COUGARS MINOR MIDGET:

The Cariboo Cougars Minor Midget team will visit the (5-3-1) Thompson Blazers Minor Midget team Friday night at 7, Saturday afternoon at 2 and Sunday morning at 10 in Chase.

The Cariboo Minor Midgets 15-year-olds are 7-1-1 and tied with the Okanagan Rockets for first place.

 

NHL: (Four Canadian teams in action Tuesday)

The Canucks are 1-2-2 on a six-game road trip and 10-8-2 overall.

Vancouver visits the (11-5-2) Minnesota Wild on Thursday before returning home to face the (9-6-3) Montreal Canadiens Saturday.

Tom Wilson returned to the Washington Capitals line-up and scored a goal in a 5-2 victory over the Wild in Minnesota.

An Independent Arbitrator reduced Wilson’s suspension from 20 games to 14.

He has already served 16 games for an illegal check to the head of St. Louis Blues forward Oskar Sundqvist in the Capitals’ preseason finale on Sept. 30.

Brett Connolly of Prince George picked up an assist in the Capitals win.

There are three Wednesday games in the NHL: Washington at Winnipeg, Boston at Colorado and St. Louis at Chicago. The Blackhawks have lost eight straight.

 

CHL CANADA-RUSSIA SERIES:

(Game Five Tuesday in Sherbrooke, Quebec)

The Russians are 3-2 in the six-game series, which will wrap-up Thursday in Drummondville.

They split with the WHL (2-1 WHL win followed by 3-1 Russia victory) and with the OHL (3-1 OHL win and 4-0 Russia victory).

 

2026 WINTER OLYMPICS:

It appears the city of Calgary will “NOT” be going forward with a bid for the 2026 Winter Olympics.

56 per cent of Calgary residents have voted “NO” in a non-binding plebiscite to gauge public opinion on whether or not there was sufficient interest to submit a bid.

 

UNBC TIMBERWOLVES:

The UNBC Timberwolves host the Trinity Western University (TWU) Spartans Friday night at 6 and 8 and Saturday night at 5 and 7 at the Northern Sport Centre.

The UNBC women are 4-0 while the men sit 3-1.

TWU is 6-0 (women) and 0-6 (men).

 

BC HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: 

Double-A Varsity:

The PGSS Polars play the No. 2-ranked Holy Cross Crusaders of Surrey Saturday at noon at B.C. Place Stadium.

The winner advances to the B.C. high school football Double-A Varsity semi-finals.

Junior Varsity:

The College Heights Cougars will play in the Junior Varsity semi-finals against the Windsor Dukes the Nov. 23rd weekend in North Vancouver.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats  at  Ottawa RedBlacks  (Sunday 10 a.m. PT)
Winnipeg Blue Bombers  at  Calgary Stampeders  (Sunday 1:30 p.m.)

The winners meet in the Grey Cup on Sunday, Nov. 25th in Edmonton.

 

NFL:

The NFL has moved Monday’s game between the Chiefs and Rams from Mexico City to Los Angeles before of poor field conditions.

There are reports that players had strongly considered not playing if the NFL had opted to play the game in Mexico City.

Without playing a down, Le’Veon Bell’s season is over after he did not report to the Pittsburgh Steelers by the Tuesday afternoon 1 p.m. (PT) deadline.

Bell is ineligible to play the remainder of the 2018 NFL season. He will become an unrestricted free agent in 2019.

 

NBA:

Dwane Casey is back in Toronto.

The ex-Raptors coach is now coaching the Detroit Pistons who are off to a 6-6 start.

The Pistons visit the 12-2 Toronto Raptors who have the best record in the NBA.

 

SWIMMING:

The Prince George Barracuda Swim Club will host its annual Medical Northern Sprint Meet this weekend at the Aquatic Centre.

Racing runs 5:40-7:30 p.m. Friday, 9:10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and 9:10 a.m. to about 2 p.m. Sunday.

Out of town teams joining the Barracudas are from Quesnel, Williams Lake, Richmond, Chetwynd, Points North, and Grande Prairie.
