PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

Kamloops Blazers  7  Prince George Cougars  3  (Sunday)

For the second straight day, the Blazers built up a 5-0 lead before the Cougars got on the board in the third period before 2,300 fans at the CN Centre.

Kamloops swept the weekend doubleheader by a combined 12-4 margin (they won 5-1 Saturday) to stretch its
CN Centre win-streak to eight games.

The Blazers dominated the special teams going 2/3 on the power-play and adding a shorthanded goal.

Prince George was just 1/9 with the man advantage.

The Blazers leading scorer, Zane Franklin had a goal and four assists to give him seven points in the two games.

The 9-10-1-2 Cougars are third in the BC Division, three points behind (12-6) Victoria, two points ahead of (9-13-1) Kelowna, and three up on (8-9-1-1) Kamloops.

The Blazers have three games in hand.

Both teams have better road records, with the Blazers 6-4-0-1 away and just 2-5-1 at home.

The Cats are 5-7-0-1 at home and 4-3-1-1 on the road.

The Cougars host the Regina Pats Friday and the Saskatoon Blades Saturday to conclude a five-game home stand.

Jermaine Loewen scored in the final minute of both the first and second periods.

The Blazers outshot the Cougars 36-14 before 2,600 fans at the CN Centre.

Kamloops scored three times on the power play (3/7) while PG went 0/2 with the man-advantage.

 

PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

Nanaimo Clippers  3  Prince George Spruce Kings  2  (OT Sunday)

The Spruce Kings earned five out of a possible six points on their weekend Island road trip.

The 17-7-1-1 Spruce Kings are in second place in the Mainland Division, two points behind the Chilliwack Chiefs.

The next home game for the Spruce Kings will be against the (10-11-4-2) Trail Smoke Eaters on Wednesday.

Prince George Spruce Kings  2  Alberni Valley Bulldogs  1 (Saturday)

Ben Brar snapped a 1-1 tie with just 3:56 left in the third, his 18th goal of the season.

Prince George Spruce Kings  3  Powell River Kings  0 (Friday)

Logan Neaton made 16 saves for the shutout and Ben Brar scored twice and added an assist.

 

CARIBOO COUGARS:

Greater Vancouver Canadians  3  Cariboo Cougars  1 (Sunday)

The loss ended the Cougars eight-game unbeaten streak.

Cariboo Cougars  2  Greater Vancouver Canadians  2 (Tie Saturday)

The 9-4-3 Cougars visit the North Island Silvertips Saturday at 4:45 p.m. and Sunday at 8:00 a.m. in Nanaimo.

The Prince George based team is tied for fourth place, but just four points out of first place.

The Canucks have lost five straight.

Vancouver plays three on the road this week: Wednesday in Anaheim, Friday in San Jose, and Saturday in LA.

The season is over for the PG Bowl champion Polars.

The Crusaders advance to the B.C. High School football Double-A Varsity semi-finals.

Junior Varsity:

The College Heights Cougars football team will play in the Junior Varsity semi-finals against the Windsor Dukes Wednesday afternoon at 2 at Hillside Stadium in Kamloops.

 

CFL:

The Stamps advance to the Grey Cup for the third straight year.

Trevor Harris threw a CFL playoff-record six TD passes

The Stampeders and RedBlacks meet in the 106th Grey Cup game on Sunday in Edmonton.

 

NFL: (Week 11)

Ninth straight win for the (9-1) Saints.

The Monday night game to conclude Week 11 has the Kansas City Chiefs at the LA Rams; both teams are 9-1.

Washington Redskins quarterback Alex Smith is out for the season.

The 34-year-old Smith will need surgery after suffering a gruesome broken leg in the 23-21 loss to the Houston Texans.

It was a similar injury to the one Redskins QB Joe Thiesmann suffered 33-years ago to the day.

 

NBA:

The Toronto Raptors play Tuesday in Orlando and Wednesday in Atlanta to conclude a four-game road trip.

The 13-4 Raptors, coming off Saturday’s 122-83 triumph in Chicago, have the best record in the NBA.
