Prince George RCMP’s third annual Pack-A-PC event saw more food donations this year compared to 2017.
Residents were able to fill 30 police vehicles to the brim on Sunday with non-perishable food items, eight more than the 22 the City packed last year.
Event Organizer Bev Livingstone explains all donations are going to the PG Council of Seniors.
“Everytime we do this, people come up to me and say that this such a great idea because the seniors are always forgotten. One year, I remember it was Houston, they did a Pack-A-PC up there and they did six cars, and I thought to myself, you know what, we are so much bigger and we can do so much more.”
Livingstone believes seniors tend to have a lot more pride this time of year, especially those who live on their own.
She says seniors should consider joining the program if they feel they’re short on life essentials.
“There was people that said, ‘Well I’m a senior and I don’t even know what this is all about.’ We would direct them here, but we wouldn’t really have that information and they don’t know that, and they can apply so we just look at them and say I don’t know what your circumstances are but you can always contact Council of Seniors.”
More than $3,100 in gift cards are also going to the Council of Seniors, which is slightly less than the $4,000 raised last year.
