Social media, public outcry, lead to changes for College Heights intersection

Some changes will be coming for a much-discussed College Heights intersection.

The Prince George Standing Committee on Finance and Audit met this afternoon and one subject on the agenda was the intersection of Domano Boulevard and St. Lawrence/Gladstone Drive.

City Councillor Brian Skakun said residents of the area have been asking for changes for several years now, citing a number of issues including speeding, traffic coming from Gladstone and St. Lawrence, and the sharp corner before the intersection at Gladstone.

“With more density, the traffic is getting worse, there are more accidents. The residents have really been proactive with the Facebook page and contacting council trying to get these improvements done and now it looks like it’s going to happen early next year.”

Skakun said council gave the go ahead and there is funding, however, the administration will be finalizing exactly what changes will be made to the intersection after a budget is voted on in the spring.

He said as the project nears they will be letting the public know the details.

“It will be happening, that’s the important thing.”

“I think what’s really happening with social media, people in different neighbourhoods are getting really proactive about their specific projects. I think people are doing the right things when they want to get something pushed through in their area of town,” said Skakun.
