–17-year-old rookie Tyson Verhelst stopped 41 shots, including 20 in the second period, to lead the Spokane Chiefs to a 5-0 triumph over the Prince George Cougars before 2,261 fans at CN Centre. The Chiefs took control with three unanswered goals in less than seven minutes in the opening period. Spokane swept all three games against Prince George in a five day period.

–The P.G. Cougars are 17-18 as of the Christmas break. They are 3rd in the BC Division, three points behind Victoria, two ahead of Vancouver and three in front of last place Kamloops.

–The Cougars play their next games Dec 27th and 28th in Victoria. The Cats next home games will take place Jan 6th and 7th against the Tri-City Americans.

–The Prince George Cougars leading scorer, Jansen Harkins, is one of 12 players from the WHL that has been selected to play in the 2015 CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game on January 22nd in St. Catherines, Ontario. Harkins, who will suit up for Team Orr, is rated as an ‘A’ prospect on NHL Central Scouting’s Preliminary List for 2015 draft eligible players.

–The Prince George Spruce Kings visit Langley tonight to begin a 3 game Mainland Division road trip. The Spruce Kings also play Friday in Surrey and Saturday in Coquitlam.

–The 12th annual Spirit high school hockey Game featuring PGSS and College Heights Senior Secondary will be played at CN Centre Friday at 12:30. This year CHSS is collecting funds for the Salvation Army while PGSS is collecting food for St. Vincent DePaul Society.

–The Major Midget leading Cariboo Cougars visit the Greater Vancouver Canadians Saturday and Sunday in Richmond and Delta.

–The Northern Cougars female midget hockey team will host the Vancouver Island Hurricanes this weekend at Kin 1.

–-Duchess Park hosts its annual Christmas Classic senior basketball tournament today and Friday. The Duchess double A senior girls are ranked first in the province after they won an eight team tournament at C.W. Graham secondary in Chilliwack.
