Ty Edmonds made 45 saves to lead the Prince George Cougars to a 5-3 victory over the WHL leading Kelowna Rockets. The Rockets outshot the Cats 48-20. The 19-19 Cougars play Friday in Vancouver and Saturday in Kelowna before hosting Tri-City Jan 6th and 7th.

–The Cariboo Cougars outscored the Markham (Ontario) Waxers 5-3 at the Mac’s Midget Triple A Hockey Tournament in Calgary. The Cougars finished 3-1 in round robin play to advance to the quarter-finals against the German U17 Nationals. (In earlier action: Cariboo beat the Battleford Stars 3-1, lost 4-2 to the Calgary North Stars and doubled Lethbridge 6-3).

–The P.G. based Northern Cougars female midget hockey team tied Swift Current 1-1 in its final game at the Mac’s in Calgary. The Northern Cougars finished the tournament with a 1-2-1 record. (They beat Peace Country 2-1 after losing to St Albert 1-0 and 4-3 to the Westman Wildcats)

–The Prince George Spruce Kings play their first game in the new year Saturday when they host the Nanaimo Clippers.

–Alyssa Connell of Prince George (and her rink of Third Bailey Eberherr, Second Jordan Henson and Lead Erin Ross) is 1-2 at the eight-team Provincial Junior Women’s Curling Championship in Parksville. Connell lost 11-6 to Briana Egan of Coquitlam. (The P.G. foursome split its first two games: a 7-6 loss to Sarah Daniels of Delta was followed by a 9-5 victory over Kirsten Zucchet of Chilliwack.

–The Caledonia Nordic Ski Club hosts the first 2015 Teck BC Cup at Otway Nordic Centre Saturday and Sunday. 200 skiers from around the province are expected to participate. The schedule is listed below.

9:00 AM to approx 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 3, 2015 – Home Hardware Classic Technique Sprints Qualification Round (to determine seeding positions for the afternoon Heats)

12:00 PM to approx 4:00 PM, Saturday, January 3, 2015 – Home Hardware Classic Technique Sprint Heats

10:00 AM to approx 1:00 PM, Sunday, January 4, 2015—RHB Schmitz de Grace Free Technique, Interval Start

This event (sanctioned by Cross Country Canada) will use the same courses and facilities that will be used for the 2015 Canada Winter Games cross country ski races being held during the last week of February.
