Cold snap ending in PG as Family Day long weekend approaches

Prince George residents may finally see some light at the end of the tunnel as the cold weather we’ve seen is pushing its way out.

The BC Family Day long weekend is upon us and Environment Canada Meteorologist, Jennifer Hay told My PG Now the outdoors will be a lot more pleasant than in recent weeks

“Temperatures are dropping to about minus twenty at night and the daytime highs are in low single digits in the next few days so that will be a bit of a change.”

After two weeks of bitterly cold temperatures, Hay believes it will be much more pleasant from start to finish.

“It’s going to be a pretty good weekend, still below normal as it would be between zero and minus nine for this time of year in your region but we’re not looking at those minus thirty or minus forty temperatures with nasty winds and chilly windchills, that was terrible and we’re through with that.”

Hay adds we’ll be getting into the single digits by early next week with a small chance of snow on Tuesday.

When asked if there was any chance of the possibility of snow returning to PG, Hay expects it to happen within the same window as the warmup.

“The next chance of snow is possible on Tuesday with it starting on Monday night and then it looks pretty likely on Tuesday with a few centimeters expected for our area but temperatures will be a lot more livable with temperatures between minus five and minus thirteen.”
