Auxiliary to UHNBC celebrates 100 years of service

Over $5.5 million dollars donated and more than one million volunteer hours add up to the 100th birthday of The Auxiliary to UHNBC.

The Auxiliary commemorated the event with a plaque, birthday cake, and celebration speeches at UHNBC this morning.

They have also pledged $100,000 towards patient comfort renovations at Jubilee Lodge. Because they work collaboratively
with Northern Health and primarily fund equipment in partnership with the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation, this amount was leveraged by each to bring the total of $300,000 that will see significant changes in safety and especially patient comfort.

During the Auxiliary Board Chair Lindy Steele’s presentation, she showed the crowd a financial ledger they’d discovered from the first year of service, in 1919.

Annabelle Ross has been volunteering with the service for 12 years, she said, “when we found that we just about screamed that we had that one little piece of paper that said 1919 on it, and it was handwritten, it wasn’t disintegrated.”

For Ross, “it just means beautiful people. They give and give, and then when they find they can’t anymore there seems to be three or four more following in their footsteps.”
