The Prince George Spruce Kings went 2-1 on their weekend Island road trip following a 5-4 victory over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. 10 different Spruce Kings picked up at least one point and Alex Brooks-Potts had 39 saves as Alberni Valley outshot P.G. 43-36. Earlier, the Spruce Kings lost 5-1 in Nanaimo (Saturday) after they beat Powell River (Friday) 5-4 in double overtime.

–The 8-4-0-1 P.G. Spruce Kings play their next three games at home starting Thursday against 10-1 Penticton. They also entertain Trail Saturday and Powell River Sunday. Prince George is in second place in the BCHL Mainland Division, two points behind 9-1-0-1 Chilliwack.

–The Prince George Cougars are 3-3 on the road and 7-5 overall after they split a pair on the weekend. The Cougars lost 9-1 (Saturday) in Vancouver, a day after posting a 3-1 victory (Friday) in Seattle. P.G. is 5th in the WHL Western Conference, a point behind Kamloops and Everett, but just a point ahead of Victoria, two in front of Vancouver, three up on Spokane and four ahead of 9th place Seattle.

–The P.G. Cougars are home Wednesday against 8-2-1 Brandon as the Cats start a stretch of four games in five nights. The Cougars also visit 3-7-1 Red Deer Friday, 7-3 Edmonton Saturday and 6-4-0-1 Calgary Sunday.

–The Major Midget Cariboo Cougars crushed the winless Thompson Blazers 11-2 (Sunday) and 5-2 (Saturday) in Chase. The 8-1-1 Cariboo Cats are in first place in the BCMML by a point over the Vancouver North West Giants, although the 8-0 Giants have two games in hand. Cariboo will host the 4-6 South Island Royals Saturday at 7:15pm and Sunday at 9:30am at Kin 1.

–The Prince George Northland Dodge female midget Cougars swept a triple-header against the Fraser Valley Phantom to take over sole possession of first place (in the BC Hockey FMAAA League) with a 10-2 record. Scores were 2-0 (Sunday), 6-1 (Saturday) and 5-3 (Friday).

–The Duchess Park Condors are PG Bowl high school football champions following a 21-16 triumph over the PGSS Polars at Masich Place Stadium. Both Duchess and PGSS will next play November 7th in the provincial playoffs in Kamloops.

–Host Nechako Valley took top honors in both the senior girls and senior boys team standings at the 35th annual North Central Zone High School X-Country running Championships. Second place went to the College Heights girls and Correlieu (Quesnel) boys. The NVSS girls have won six consecutive zone titles. Individually, PG Track Club middle distance athlete Alexander Nemethy of Vanderhoof has placed 1st in the Zones for the past 3 years. The girls race was won by Olivia Baptiste of Correlieu. Provincials will be held in Victoria on Nov 1.

–The College Heights Junior “A” boys volleyball team won the DP Todd Invitational tournament defeating Duchess Park “A” in straight sets in the final.

–The Prince George Judo Club racked up 16 medals (3 gold, 9 silver and 4 bronze) at the BC Judo Championships in Abbotsford. The North Capital Judo Club earned four gold and three silver, (with four of those medals from the Young family). The Hart Judo Club finished with four firsts, nine seconds and five thirds. Two members of the Hart Judo Club, Grace Northrop (-52KG) and Lavanna Laass (-63KG) plus Kristen Yawney (-70KG) of the PG Judo Club have been named to the provincial team that will compete at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George.
