Age is time, and time is laps for Ice Oval’s Birthday Club

It might just be the only way to shake off the rust on those skates of yours.

The Outdoor Ice Oval is having its first ever Birthday Club event on Sunday, March 3.

According to Lyle Dickeson, the idea originally stemmed from a group of regulars at the Ice Oval.

“A few of us who skate here a lot just decided to see if we could skate as many laps as we are old,” Dickeson told My PG Now. “So we thought let’s expand this and give everyone a try.”

The premise is for people to come out and skate their age in laps, while also offering up some creative ways of accomplishing the feat.

“You can either add your birthday digits together. Say you’re a 12-year-old, you can skate 12 laps; you could reverse them — skate 21 laps, or you could add your one and two together and skate three laps.

Dickeson says the event is also acting as a way to get the word out of the patch of ice, which is located behind the CN Centre.

Food and hot beverages will be served for the event.

The event runs from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and event attendees are only asked for a generous donation.

For those who might not be able to attend the event but are still interested in skating on the Ice Oval, it’s open both Saturdays and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Admission for general skating is $5 for the family, $2 for individuals.
