PG COUGARS AWARDS:

The day after their season ended, the Prince George Cougars named Josh Maser winner of the Dan Hamhuis award as the team MVP.

The Houston, B.C. product, who turned 20 in January, scored 30 goals (and added 12 assists) in 61 games.

WHL: (Final action of the season for the PG Cougars)

Kamloops Blazers  4  Prince George Cougars  2  (Saturday)

Connor Zary snapped a 2-2 tie with a Short Handed goal with just 2:45 left in the 3rd period, before a season-high crowd of 5,178 on Fan Appreciation Night at CN Centre.

The goal came just 2:21 after Jermaine Loewen tied the game at 2 for the Blazers.

Loewen added the clinching marker into an empty net.

The Cougars took a short-lived 2-1 lead when Cole Moberg tallied Short Handed with 5:21 left in regulation time.

Vladislav Mikhalchuk also scored for the Cats, his 25th in the second period which tied the game 1-1.

This was the Blazers 11th consecutive win at CN Centre, dating back two years.

Kamloops will host Kelowna Tuesday in a tiebreaker after both teams tied for 3rd in the B.C. Division with 64 points.

The Rockets won their Saturday night 3-2 in overtime over the Vancouver Giants.

The Cougars finished their season in 19th place out of 22 teams in the overall WHL standings with a record of 19-41-5-3.

Prince George was 3-11-1-1 since general manager Mark Lamb took over as interim head coach.

Vladislav Mikhalchuk scored his second goal of the game at 3:46 of overtime.

The Blazers picked up a valuable point after Connor Zary shot one past Taylor Gauthier with just 56 seconds left in regulation time, and Kamloops going with six attackers.

Mikhalchuk, the Cougars leading scorer, finished with four points while his linemate and captain Josh Curtis added a goal and two assists before 4,629 fans at Sandman Centre.

With the Portland Winterhawks losing Sunday, the Spokane Chiefs will have home advantage against the Winterhawks in the first-round of the playoffs.

Spruce Kings lead the Mainland Division Final 2-0 with games three and four tonight and Tuesday in Prince George.

(The Spruce Kings have won their last 11 games on home ice)

Ben Poisson scored early in the first and set up the winner by his brother Nicholas Poisson midway through the second.

Max Coyle also scored for Prince George who outshot the Chiefs 26-20 before a crowd of 1,729 in Chilliwack.

Logan Neaton earned the shutout as Prince George outshot the Chiefs 35-19 before 1,550 stunned fans in Chilliwack.

Dustin Manz notched a hat trick and defenceman Dylan Anhorn added two goals and an assist for the Spruce Kings who built up period leads of 2-0 and 7-0.

The Major Midget Cougars win the best-of-three BCMML quarterfinal series 2-0.

The Cougars host the Vancouver NE Chiefs in the best-of-three semifinals Friday night at 7:00, Saturday at 4:15 p.m. and if needed, Sunday morning at 10:00 at Kin 1.

BC MINOR HOCKEY PROVINCIALS:

The Prince George North Central Bobcats host the Bantam Tier 1 provincial hockey championship at Kin 1.

Prince George begins the six-team round robin with a pair of games today (Monday): against North Shore in the tournament opener (10:30 a.m.) and vs. Victoria Racquet Club in the last game of the day (7:15 p.m.)

The top two teams face off in the Thursday night final at 7:30.

The Canucks visit the (32-30-9) Chicago Blackhawks tonight.

The 30-32-10 Canucks are 13th in the Western Conference, 8 points behind the Arizona Coyotes for the final wild-card playoff spot with just 10 games remaining (7 home and 3 away).

The Blackhawks, who are three points ahead of Vancouver, are five points out of a post-season berth.
