BC Physical Therapy program providing local benefits

A new graduate has found a place in our local industry.

A Masters of Physical Therapy Grad who just received her degree in November will now be working at St. John Hospital.

Kaley Hopps will be supporting Vanderhoof residents, and it comes at a good time – as its been tough going to recruit qualified individuals into rural areas.

She says the choice for her and her husband to come to Vanderhoof was due to the availability of jobs right out of school, but also included several other opportunities:

“So we were quite attracted by all the activities that they had to offer because we do search and rescue and the fire department as well as volunteering with girl guides”

Hopps graduated from the first Northern and Rural Cohort of UBC’s physical therapy program, which encourages physiotherapists to live in the North, and included training at UNBC and in Northern communities.

She is filling a position that has been vacant since 2008 and hopes to volunteer with many more local organizations.
