Prince George Spruce Kings  3  Chilliwack Chiefs  1

The Spruce Kings sweep the Mainland Division Final 4-0, outscoring the Chiefs 21-3 in the series.

Prince George scored two unanswered goals in the first period and outshot Chilliwack 36-16 before 1,847 fans at the RMCA. (Both teams tallied in the third)

The Spruce Kings have won their last 13 games on home ice and 20 of their last 22 games overall.

Prince George will play either the Victoria Grizzlies or the Powell River Kings in the Coastal Conference Championship starting next week.

The Island Division Final is tied 2-2 after Powell River won 3-2 in overtime Tuesday night.

The Blazers broke a 1-1 tie with four unanswered goals in the third period, two of them shorthanded just 1:28 apart.

UPDATE at 10:05 a.m.

The Prince George Cougars will pick 2nd and 4th in the WHL Bantam Draft after the Winnipeg (Kootenay) Ice won the Bantam Draft lottery today (Wednesday).

The Ice will get the first overall pick in the Bantam Draft which will be held on Thursday, May 2nd in Red Deer.

Winnipeg had the second-best chance of winning the lottery (at 23.8 %).

The Cougars will pick second thanks to an earlier trade with the Swift Current Broncos.

Prince George finished 19th out of 22 teams in the 2018-19 overall standings with a record of 19-41-5-3.

Sniper Matt Savoie, considered to be the No. 1 prospect for the 2019 WHL bantam draft, announced Monday that he plans on attending the U of Denver starting in 2021.

BC MAJOR MIDGET LEAGUE: (Playoff action)

The Cariboo Cougars host the Vancouver NE Chiefs in the best-of-three BCMML semifinals.

Games are scheduled for Friday night at 7:00, Saturday at 4:15 p.m. and if needed, Sunday morning at 10:00 at Kin 1.

The Major Midget Cougars are riding an 8-game win streak.

They beat the Greater Vancouver Canadians 8-2 and 4-2 in the best-of-three quarterfinals.

BC MINOR HOCKEY PROVINCIALS:

The host Prince George North Central Bobcats have a 2-0-1 record and are tied with North Vancouver for first place entering play today at the six-team Bantam Tier 1 provincial hockey championship at Kin 1.

North Central beat Okanagan-North 6-4 Tuesday night.

The Bobcats play Cloverdale tonight at 7:30 and North East Thursday afternoon at 1:30.

The top two teams face off in the Thursday night final at 7:30.

North East is 3-1 and tied for first place after a couple of Tuesday wins at the seven-team Midget Tier 1 in Kelowna (March 17-21).

North East beat Okanagan-Central 3-0 and East Kootenay 7-2.

Round robin play continues with North East against Richmond today (9:00 a.m.) and Burnaby Thursday morning at 9:00.

P.G. fell to 9-1 to the Burnaby Winter Club and 6-2 to Juan de Fuca.

The Habs are just one point behind Columbus for the second wild-card spot in the East with both teams having nine games left.

The (45-21-7) lead the Pacific Division and Western Conference by three points over San Jose with nine games remaining.

The Vancouver Canucks play their next seven games on home ice beginning tonight against the last-place (25-41-6) Ottawa Senators.

The 31-32-10 Canucks are 12th in the Western Conference, 6 points behind the Arizona Coyotes for the final wild-card playoff spot with just 9 games remaining (7 home and 2 away).

The Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals will visit the White House on Monday, but not all of their players will be going.

Brett Connolly of Prince George said Tuesday night that he would skip the ceremony.

“I said what I needed to say,” Connolly told reporters. “Respectfully, decline. That’s all I will say about it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. It’s obviously a big deal and gains a lot of attention, but I have been in full support of an old teammate that I am really good friends with and I agreed with.”

The Toronto Raptors play a home-and-home against the (42-29) Thunder, tonight in Oklahoma City and Friday in Toronto.

The (50-21) Raptors are second in the NBA Eastern Conference, 3 games behind the (53-17) Milwaukee Bucks with 11 games left for each team.

MLB:

Outfielder Mike Trout and the Los Angeles Angels have agreed to the largest contract in pro sports history, a 12-year deal worth more than $430 million.

Trout, who has won two American League MVP awards, will receive an average of nearly $36 million a year, topping Zack Greinke’s previous record average of $34.4 million with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
