Chiefs lead the best-of-three BCMML semi-final series 1-0.

The loss ended the Cougars eight-game win streak.

Game two will be played this afternoon (Saturday) at 4:15 with a third game, if needed, Sunday morning at 10:00 at Kin 1.

The Prince George Spruce Kings will host either the Victoria Grizzlies or the Powell River Kings in the first two games of the best-of-seven BCHL Coastal Conference Championship on Friday, March 29th and Saturday, March 30th.

The Spruce Kings won the Mainland Division Final in four straight over Chilliwack, outscoring the Chiefs 21-3,

The Spruce Kings have won their last 13 games on home ice and 20 of their last 22 games overall.

HARKINS:

Todd Harkins is joining the Athletics Department at St. George’s School in Vancouver as the Head of Hockey.

Harkins was the general manager of the Prince George Cougars for four seasons before he was released at the end of his contract a year ago.

The Vancouver Canucks host the Western Conference-leading Calgary Flames tonight and the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday.

The 32-32-10 Canucks, who have won their last three, are five points behind the Minnesota Wild for the final wild-card playoff spot.

Vancouver, with just 8 games remaining (6 home and 2 away), is also four points back of the Colorado Avalanche and the Arizona Coyotes.

BC MINOR HOCKEY PROVINCIALS:

Prince George minor hockey teams have concluded or are wrapping play at B.C. championships around the province.

The host Prince George North Central Bobcats won the gold medal at Bantam Tier 1 provincial hockey championship at Kin 1.

The Bobcats crushed the North Vancouver Storm 6-1 in the final.

Captain Nico Myatovic scored twice and added two assists to finish with 17 points (six goals) in six games.

Prince George finished third with a 2-1-2 record at the Bantam Female on the Lower Mainland. P.G. outscored Richmond 6-1 Friday in the six-team tournament.

Prince George finished 3-3 and in 5th place (out of seven teams) at the Bantam Tier 2 in Nanaimo. P.G. beat Nanaimo 10-1 in its last game.

Prince George is 0-2 after a 6-2 loss to North Shore Friday at the Peewee Female in Greater Trail. P.G. plays Kelowna today (8:00 a.m.), South Island this afternoon (3:45 p.m.) and
Greater Trail Sunday (1:30 p.m.) in the six-team tournament.

WORLD WOMEN’S CURLING CHAMPIONSHIP:
(in Silkeborg, Denmark)

Canada finished 8th with a 6-6 record at the world women’s curling championship.

This is the first time in 20 years that Canada has missed the playoffs.

On Friday, Chelsea Carey of Calgary lost 5-3 to Sweden before completing the round robin with a 5-3 victory over Denmark.

Rachel Brown of Smithers (who moved to Edmonton in 2006) is the lead on the Canadian team.

The 2020 women’s world curling championship will be held in Prince George.
