Cariboo Cougars beat the Vancouver NE Chiefs 4-2 today (Sudnay) to win the series 2-1.

Curtis Hammond scored at 1:45 of double overtime.

The best-of-three BCMML semi-final series is tied 1-1 with the third and deciding game this morning (Sunday) at 10:00 at Kin 1.

The winner will play the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds in the championship series starting Friday in Abbotsford.

First game in the best-of-three semi-final.

The loss ended the Cougars eight-game win streak.

Powell River Kings  4  Victoria Grizzlies  2  (Saturday)

The best-of-seven Island Division Final is tied 3-3 with the 7th and deciding game Monday night in Victoria. The winner plays the Prince George Spruce Kings. (Victoria won Friday’s game 4-2)

Trail Smoke Eaters  5  Vernon Vipers  2  (Saturday)

The best-of-seven Interior Division semi-final is tied 3-3 with the 7th and deciding game Monday night in Vernon. (The Vipers won Friday’s game 5-2 on home ice)

Tonight in the BCHL: the Wenatchee Wild will play in Duncan against the Cowichan Valley Capitals. Wenatchee leads the Interior semi 3-2 after Friday’s 2-1 victory in overtime.

The Prince George Spruce Kings will host either the Victoria Grizzlies or the Powell River Kings
Friday and Saturday in the first two games of the best-of-seven BCHL Coastal Conference Championship.

The Spruce Kings won the Mainland Division Final in four straight over Chilliwack, outscoring the Chiefs 21-3,

The Spruce Kings have won their last 13 games on home ice and 20 of their last 22 games overall.

Calgary Flames  3  Vancouver Canucks  1

The loss ended a 3-game Vancouver win streak.

The Canucks host the (40-30-4) Columbus Blue Jackets tonight.

The 32-33-10 Canucks are six points behind the Colorado Avalanche for the final wild-card playoff spot.

Vancouver, with just 7 games remaining (5 home and 2 away), is also five points back of the Minnesota Wild and the Arizona Coyotes.

BC MINOR HOCKEY PROVINCIALS:

Prince George minor hockey teams concluded their season at B.C. championships around the province.

The host Prince George North Central Bobcats won the gold medal at Bantam Tier 1 provincial hockey championship at Kin 1.

The Bobcats crushed the North Vancouver Storm 6-1 in the final.

Captain Nico Myatovic scored twice and added two assists to finish with 17 points (six goals) in six games.

Prince George finished third (bronze medal) with a 2-1-2 record at the Bantam Female on the Lower Mainland. The tournament results are right here.

HARKINS:

Todd Harkins is joining the Athletics Department at St. George’s School in Vancouver as the Head of Hockey.

Harkins was the general manager of the Prince George Cougars for four seasons before he was released at the end of his contract a year ago.

WORLD WOMEN’S CURLING CHAMPIONSHIP:
(in Silkeborg, Denmark)

Switzerland beat Sweden 8-7 in the gold medal game at the world women’s curling championship.

Canada finished 8th with a 6-6 record to miss the playoffs for the first time in 20 years.

Rachel Brown of Smithers (who moved to Edmonton in 2006) is the lead on the Canadian team.

NBA:  

The Toronto Raptors host the (33-39) Charlotte Hornets this afternoon (3:00 PT).
