BCHL:

Prince George Spruce Kings  4  Victoria Grizzlies  2

The Spruce Kings lead the BCHL Coastal Conference final 3-0 (winning each game 4-2).

They will go for a sweep tonight in Victoria.

Nolan Welsh scored twice, including the winner shorthanded, and added an assist to give the former Grizzlie 12 points (3 goals) in 12 playoff games.

Five of the six goals in the game came in the second period, with the other in the third.

Prince George outshot the hosts 46-29 before 1,254 fans in Victoria.

The Spruce Kings are 11-1 in the playoffs and haven’t allowed more than two goals (except for an empty netter in their lone loss) in those games.

Prince George has outscored the opposition 48-19 in its 12 playoff games.

The Spruce Kings have won 23 of their last 25 overall games.

After scoring three goals and adding one assist in the first two games against the Victoria Grizzlies, PG Spruce Kings forward Corey Cunningham is the BCHL Player of the Week.

The 17-year-old from Prince George added an assist on Monday to give him five points in the series.

MAJOR MIDGET HOCKEY:

The Cariboo Cougars visit the Alberta-champion Calgary Buffaloes in the Major Midget best-of-3 Pacific Region championship series.

Games will be played at the Cardel Rec South Arena in Calgary Friday and Saturday night at 6:00 (PT) and if needed Sunday 1:00pm (PT).

The winner advances to Telus Cup midget national championship in Thunder Bay, Ontario April 22-28.

WHL: (1 Monday playoff game)

The WHL Western Conference semi-finals are set: Victoria will play Vancouver starting Friday in Langley and Spokane meets Everett beginning Saturday in Everett.

The first round of the WHL playoffs will end tonight with the Calgary Hitmen at the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the 7th and deciding game.

The winner will play the Edmonton Oil Kings.

One Eastern Conference semi will open Friday in Prince Albert as the Raiders host the Saskatoon Blades.

NHL: (8 Monday games)

The 34-35-10 Vancouver Canucks entertain the San Jose Sharks tonight in their final home game of the season.

The Canucks will close out their season with road games at Nashville Thursday and at St. Louis Saturday afternoon.

There are just five days remaining in the NHL regular season.

The Montreal Canadiens host the league-leading Tampa Bay Lightning tonight.

With three games left, Montreal is a point behind Carolina for the second wild-card playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and two points back of Columbus for the first wild-card playoff berth.

The Hurricanes visit Toronto while the Blue Jackets entertain Boston this evening.

In the Western Conference, Colorado holds down the final wild-card spot by two points over Arizona with both teams having three games to go.

The Avalanche entertain Edmonton and the Coyotes are home against LA tonight.


Curling:

Canada crushed Norway 10-2 Monday  to improve to 5-0 at the world men’s curling championship in Lethbridge.

Kevin Koe and his team from Alberta will continue the round robin against Germany this afternoon (1:00 PT).

On Wednesday, Canada will also meet Japan (8:00 a.m. PT) and Sweden (6:00 p.m.)

MLB:

Baltimore Orioles  6  Toronto Blue Jays  5

The Orioles scored four runs before the Jays came to bat in the first inning.

The Blue Jays are 2-3 and the Orioles 3-1.

NBA:  

Toronto Raptors  121  Orlando Magic  109

The (55-23) Raptors, who clinched their 6th division title, are second in the NBA Eastern Conference, 3 games behind the (58-20) Milwaukee Bucks.

Toronto and Milwaukee both have four regular season games left.

The Raptors visit Brooklyn Wednesday and Charlotte Friday before they host Miami Sunday and close at Minnesota on Tuesday, April 9th.

RINGETTE:

The Prince George Rush lost all five of its games in the 18 + division at the Western Canadian ringette championships in St. Albert, Alberta.

Prince George fell 3-2 to Saskatchewan Saturday in the 4th/5th place game in the five-team tournament.

In the round-robin, the Rush lost 10-3 to Alberta and 7-0 to host St. Albert on Friday and 9-2 to
Manitoba and 10-4 to Saskatchewan on Thursday.

Alberta whipped Manitoba 8-3 in the final.

The 2020 Western Canadian ringette championships will be held in Prince George.
