Spruce Kings blank Bandits in Doyle Cup opener

The Prince George Spruce Kings began the 2019 Doyle Cup the exact same they began each round in the 2019 BCHL Playoffs.

With a win.

Ben Poisson only needed fifty nine seconds into the first period to secure the game-winner as the Spruce Kings took Game One on Friday by a 2-0 score against the Brooks Bandits.

Prince George stifled an explosive Bandits team that was ranked number one in the country and went a blazing 57-3 during the Alberta Junior Hockey League regular season, coasting to another league title following a sweep over the Spruce Grove Saints.

Logan Neaton made 30 saves for the shutout while Max Coyle scored on an end-to-end rush beating Bandits goaltender Pierce Charleson.

Game Two is slated for Saturday night in Brooks, if the Bandits win a third game will be played in Alberta on Sunday before shifiting the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena on Wednesday.

However, if the Spruce Kings are victorious, the next five games are slated for the Northern Capital, which would begin on Tuesday.
