DOYLE CUP JUNIOR HOCKEY: 

The Doyle Cup has shifted to Prince George with the Spruce Kings to resume their series against the Brooks Bandits tonight and Thursday plus if needed Saturday and Sunday.

The Bandits lead 2-1 having outscored Prince George 7-3 over the three games.

The Spruce Kings have won their last 17 home games at the RMCA dating back to mid-December.

Prince George (17-3 in the post-season) has lost two straight for the first time since mid-January.

TICKETS FOR GAMES 4 AND 5:

There are less than 250 Standing Room tickets left for the Spruce Kings-Bandits game four tonight and game five Thursday.

A number of seats in Section 5 will be released to the public this morning (Wednesday) at 10:00
that were from the Brooks allotment.

The Spruce Kings Office hours are 10-4 today and Thursday.

The Spruce Kings and Bandits have a guaranteed berth in the national junior A hockey championship May 11-19 in Brooks.

The Spruce Kings play Sunday, May 12 at 1:00 p.m. PT, Monday May 13 at 6:00 p.m. PT, Wednesday, May 15 at 6:00 p.m. PT and Thursday, May 16 at 6:00 p.m. PT vs. Brooks in the round robin.

The semi-finals are Saturday, May 18th at 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. PT and the Gold Medal game is on Sunday, May 19th at 2:00 p.m. PT.

(Sergei Bobrovsky made 36 saves for the Blue Jackets who lead the best-of-seven Eastern Conference semi-final 2-1 with game four Thursday night (4:30 PT) in Columbus)

A couple of Stanley Cup playoff games tonight: New York Islanders at Carolina (4:00) followed by St. Louis at Dallas (6:30).

The Hurricanes lead the Islanders 2-0 while the Blues are ahead of the Stars 2-1.

St. Louis is 4-0 on the road in the post-season.

WHL: (UPDATED 1 p.m.)

The WHL handed out its individual awards today.

Joachim Blichfeld of the Portland Winterhawks (Western Conference) won the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy as the league’s Player of the Year.

Blichfeld earned the Bob Clarke Trophy as the WHL’s Top Scorer with 114 points, including a league-high 53 goals.

Former PG Cougar Justin Almeida of the Moose Jaw Warriors captured the league’s Most Sportsmanlike Player of the Year award.

Almeida notched 111 points in 64 games, including a WHL high 78 assists.

The WHL holds its Bantam Draft on Thursday.

The Prince George Cougars pick 2nd and 4th overall.

The WHL Championship Series for the Ed Chynoweth Cup will begin in Prince Albert with the Raiders hosting the Vancouver Giants Friday and Saturday.

The Final, using a 2-3-2 format, will shift to Langley for game three on Tuesday.

The Nuggets lead the Trail Blazers 1-0 in their second-round series.

The Toronto Raptors and 76’ers play again Thursday (5:00 PT) in Philadelphia.

Their best-of-seven Eastern Conference semi-final is even 1-1.

MLB:

LA Angels  4  Toronto Blue Jays  3

The loss ended a three-game win streak for the Jays.

The 14-15 Blue Jays play again tonight (7:00) and Thursday in Anaheim before moving on to Texas to face the Rangers Friday to Sunday.

Toronto is third in the A.L. East, 3 games behind the NY Yankees and 5.5 back of the Tampa Bay Rays.

PG SENIOR LACROSSE:

A new season begins tonight in Prince George Senior Lacrosse.

The Westwood Pub Devils host the Quesnel Crossfire at 8:00 at Kin 2.

The five-team League is starting later than normal due to the Prince George Spruce Kings playoff run.

The School District No. 57 Elementary School Relays start this afternoon and continue Thursday and Friday at Masich Place Stadium.

Races each day get underway at 1 p.m.

 

SWIM:

The Prince George Barracudas, with 79 swimmers participating, won their own 10-team Dental Moose meet at the Aquatic Centre.
