Spruce Kings Montroy bolts for major junior; Ahac named to Canada’s Spengler Cup roster

Ethan Montroy’s time with the Prince George Spruce Kings turned out to be short and sweet.

The 19-year-old forward has left the BCHL club to sign with the Charlottetown Islanders of the Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League.

Montroy amassed 20 points in 17 games including 11 goals this season for the Spruce Kings after being acquired from the Cornwall Colts.

The Ottawa, Ontario product has previous major junior experience with the OHL’s Soo Greyhounds here he tallied seven points in 46 games over two seasons.

In addition, Spruce King alum Layton Ahac of the Abbotsford Canucks will represent Canada at the Spengler Cup in Davos Switzerland.

Ahac spent two years with the Spruce Kings from 2017-2019 and was a member of the Fred Page Cup and Doyle Cup winning teams dispatching the Brooks Bandits and Vernon Vipers.

The 23-year-old posted 61 points in 110 BCHL regular season games.

During the 2019 BCHL Playoffs, Ahac tallied 17 points in as many games.

From there, he spent two years at Ohio State before signing his entry-level contract with the Vegas Golden Knights, mainly playing for their AHL affiliate in Henderson where he played 148 games over four seasons.

In the summer he signed with the Abbotsford Canucks, the top farm club of the Vancouver Canucks where he is pointless in four games.

The tournament runs from December 26th to 31st.
