PG’s Myatovic scores first goal as a pro

It was the thrill of a lifetime for Nico Myatovic.

The 20-year-old from Prince George notched his first pro goal on Saturday for the San Diego Gulls in a 5-3 loss to the Colorado Eagles in American Hockey League action.

The Gulls are the top minor league affiliate of the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks.

Myatovic shoveled home a loose puck at 15:11 of the second period lighting the lamp against Eagles goalie Adam Scheel.

San Diego is 8-16-1-2 on the season.

Myatovic had a productive junior career with the WHL’s Seattle Thunderbirds with his best season coming in 2022-23 where he collected 30 goals and 30 assists.

He also tallied 7 points in 19 playoff games where the T-Birds clinched a WHL title on home ice against the Winnipeg Ice and were on win away from capturing the Memorial Cup but were blanked by Patrick Roy and the QMJHL’s Quebec Remparts.

Myatovic was selected 33rd overall by the Ducks in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.

San Diego is back in action December 27th when they host the Ontario Reign (16-8-0-0).
