Hot and sunny conditions likely to sweep Prince George

The next two days in Prince George are predicted to be scorchers.

The mini-heat wave will be as good a time as any to head to the beach and go for a swim.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Allan Coldwells says there is a chance for some new temperature records.

“We are looking at temperatures by Friday to be a little bit warmer, which is definitely approaching the record. We’re looking at a high of 30.6 for tomorrow and a high of 32.2 on Friday.”

The temperature record for July 6 was set back in 1920 with a daily high of 30.6 degrees Celsius.

The record high for July 7 is slightly higher at 32.2 degrees.

Where is all this heat coming from?

“Well, we’ve got a building ridge of high pressure that’s coming in off the Pacific Ocean and it’s drawing air from the south and bringing a lot warmer air towards the north,” says Coldwells.

If you plan to get your share of sun, Coldwells has a few tips to stay safe.

“You should have a high sunscreen SPF Factor, wear a hat for sure and you can get dehydrated very quickly in these kinds of conditions so I would recommend having a lot of water or fluids to keep yourself hydrated.”

Other tips include keeping your pets indoors and to check up on elderly family members during the warm weather.
