Carolina Hiller top rated Canadian in 500m, 1000m World Cup events

A Prince George speed skater was the top-ranked Canadian at the recently completed ISU World Cup long track events over the weekend in Poland.

Carolina Hiller placed 17th out of 20 skaters in her second race during the Women’s 500m A event on Saturday.

Erin Jackson of the United States took the gold medal with a time of 37.80.

In addition, Hiller placed 7th out of a pool of 29 skaters in the Women’s 1000m B event yesterday (Sunday) – the highest rated Canadian in the group.

Prior to that, the 26-year-old took home a bronze medal in the Women’s Team Sprint event as Canada placed 3rd behind the United States (Gold) and the Netherlands (Silver) on December 3rd in Norway.

The Canadian trio, which also included Maddison Pearman and Ivanie Blondin recorded a time 1:28.34 seconds.

Hiller ranks 16th in the World Cup standings (500m) with 186 points on the season – the highest rated Canadian on the list.
