JDRF holding Sun Life Walk to Cure Diabetes

JDRF will be holding the Sun Life Walk to Cure Diabetes, supporting families in Prince George impacted by type 1 diabetes.

The walk will take place at the Central BC Railway & Forestry Museum at 10:00 am on Sunday.

JDRF Community Coordinator in Prince George, Megan Rose said it’s their first in-person walk back in Prince George since the pandemic.

“We did some virtual events over covid, but they weren’t as successful,” Rose said.

“There’s always something about getting together with friends and family at a fun event and getting that connection back.”

The event originally started in Southern Ontario 30 years ago, but has since expanded across the country.

The money raised will go towards type 1 diabetes research.

“JDRF donates or puts about $75 million a year into type 1 diabetes research,” Rose explained.

“We’re one of the leading supporters of diabetes research, and we are also currently helping fund 70 human trials for some very exciting up and coming possible cures for type 1.”

The walk will also have train rides by donations, face painting, a DJ, coffee, games, a craft station, and lunch will be available for purchase.
