Harkins named Player of the Week

With an overtime goal and six assists in two games, Prince George Cougars forward Jansen Harkins is the WHL Player of the Week. Harkins notched four points in a 5-4 OT victory in Seattle and added three helpers in a 5-1 triumph in Everett. The 17-year-old North Vancouver product leads the Cougars in scoring with 76 points, including 19 goals in 61
games. The 6’1”, 180 lb Harkins has amassed 110 points (29G, 81A) in 133 career WHL games. He is the 18th ranked North American skater by Central Scouting for the 2015 NHL Draft.

–Former PG Cougars defenceman Eric Brewer was dealt for the second time this season. The 35-year-old Brewer, who is a PG Cougars minority owner, was sent from the Anaheim Ducks along with a 5th round pick to the Toronto Maple Leafs for defenceman Korbinian Holzer.

–Forward Brett Connolly of Prince George is joining the Boston Bruins. The 22-year-old former PG Cougar was sent from the Tampa Bay Lightning to the Boston Bruins for a pair of second round draft picks. Connolly has 12 goals and 3 assists in 50 games this season.

–There were 24 trades, but no blockbusters, on NHL deadline day involving 42 players and 21 draft picks.

–The Vancouver Canucks made a couple of minor moves acquiring forward Sven Baertschi from Calgary for a 2nd round pick and also swapping forwards with the New York Islanders, getting Cory Conacher in return for Dustin Jeffrey. Baertschi will report to the AHL’s Utica Comets.
