Just under $300,000 will be used by the Northwest Invasive Plant Council.
The provincial government has given $297,500 to the organization that will be used to help control the spread of invasive plants.
Program Manager Penni Adams says the majority of the money will go towards on the ground operations and building First Nations partnerships for weed control.
“We have what are called invasive plant management areas, which we have eight of” says Adams, “and various contractors administer those areas for us, so it could be surveying and recording species and sites, it could be treatment and operating of the sites.”
Adams says scabbia, knapweed and leafy spurge are the invasive plants they will be putting the most focus on this year.
She says on the West Coast, Japanese Knotweed is a real concern.
