The Prince George Youth Volleyball Club 15U Boys, coached by Jay Guillet, earned a bronze medal at the Provincials in Abbotsford. The PG 15U Boys finished with an overall 5-1 record, with their only loss to Seaside in the semi-finals. Cody Boulding was named a tournament all-star.

In other PG results at the BC Club Volleyball Championships: The 16U boys (coached by Linden Smith) ended up 9th overall with a 5-2 record.

The 16U Girls Red (coached by Dave Dalcanale) was 66th overall in Division 1 with a 4-3 record.

The 16U Girls Black (coached by Allan Tong) wound up 8th overall in Division 2 with a 2-4 record.

The 15U Girls Red (coached by Jason Florrell) wound up 4th overall in Division 2 with a 3-3 record.

The 15U Girls Black ended up 7th overall in Division 4 with a 3-2 record.

UPDATE—The WHL has handed out its league awards. The Four Broncos Memorial Trophy as Player of the Year went to
Portland Winterhawks sniper Oliver Bjorkstrand. The other finalist was Tim McGauley of Brandon. Bjorkstrand notched 63 goals and added 55 assists for 118 points in 58 games. In addition, he was plus 60.

–The 2015 WHL Bantam Draft will be held Thursday in Calgary. The Prince George Cougars have the 8th overall pick. The Spokane Chiefs, thanks to a trade with the Saskatoon Blades, have the first pick. Lethbridge will draft 2nd followed by #3 Vancouver, #4 Moose Jaw (trade with Kamloops), #5 Prince Albert, #6 Moose Jaw and #7 Tri-City.

–The WHL final opens in Brandon Friday and Saturday as the Wheat Kings face the Kelowna Rockets. The series will be a 2-3-2 format with games 3, 4 and if necessary 5 in Kelowna, Monday, Wednesday and Friday of next week. Games 6 and 7, if needed, would go in Brandon May 17th and 18th.

–BC captured bronze in the men’s U18 division at the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships in Halifax. Austin Gray of Prince George scored two goals and added an assist in the BC 5-4 win over Manitoba in the third place game. Gray was named the BC Player of the Game.

–The Prince George Track and Field Club, with the largest contingent of athletes, earned the most points at their season opening Sub Zero Meet at Masich Place Stadium. Terrace placed 2nd with McBride 3rd and Vanderhoof 4th. Nearly 150 athletes competed.

11 year old Cole Laing of the PG picked up four first place finishes winning the 100m, 200m, long jump and shot put. Meanwhile 17 year old Omar Medina was first in 100m and first in long jump.

On the girls side, 18 year old Carolina Hiller was first in the 100m, 400m, and high jump. 14 year old Rachel Kidd meanwhile took top spot in the 80m hurdles, long jump and triple jump while also placing second in the 100m.

The club`s major track meet of the season is the Annual Spruce Capital Meet June 12-14.

–BC’s Team Austgarden became Canadian Wheelchair Curling champions after defeating Quebec 11-1 in the gold medal game.

The BC team consisted of skip Gerry Austgarden, third Darryl Neighbour, second Frank LaBounty, lead Alison Duddy and coach Brad Burton.

It is the fourth time LaBounty, of Prince George, has won gold.

–The Westwood Pub Devils face the Bandits in a first place showdown tonight (Wednesday) at 8 at the PG Coliseum. Both teams are 3-0.
