New ABIC website promotes First Nations business opportunities

life sdThe BC Aboriginal Business and Investment Council has found a new way to branch out.

It’s updated its website to be more cell-phone friendly, with a better resource centre, and support links to support Aboriginal economic development.

Jobs, Tourism, and Skills Training Minister Shirley Bond hopes the new format will attract a younger audience.

“Half of the first Nations population today in British Columbia is under the age of 25, so we have an incredible opportunity to reach into that demographic to encourage them to think about business opportunities and what their role in this Province is going to be,” she says.

As well as essential tools, Bond hopes this will lend moral support as well.

“This really is about sharing success stories, but it’s also about looking for opportunities to expand that participation of aboriginal people in the economy.”

Also updated is the First Nations Economic Development Database, which has more than 1200 registered businesses.
