Cougars have 13 home doubleheaders, most of them on weekends

The Prince George Cougars will begin their 23rd season with a four game road trip followed by a six game home-stand.

The WHL 2016-17 regular season schedule will see the Cougars open with a doubleheader against the Royals September 23rd and 24th in Victoria.

The Cougars home opener is set for September 30th against Kelowna, the first of 13 doubleheaders at CN Centre, eight of which fall on weekends.

The Cougars will play 21 of their 36 home games on either a Friday (11) or a Saturday (10) night.

They also have eight games on a Tuesday, six on a Wednesday and one on Family Day, Feb. 13th at 2 p.m. against Spokane.

The annual Teddy Bear Toss game in P.G. will go Saturday, December 10th against Seattle.

The Cats longest home-stand is seven games from Dec. 2nd to 14th. They also have two home-stands of six games.

The Cougars wrap up their schedule with a home and home against the Blazers: March 17th in Kamloops and the 18th in P.G.

Prince George has increased its number of Feature Games from 10 to 12.

The 25th CHL Import Draft will be held today (Tuesday) starting at 8:00 a.m. Pacific.

The P.G. Cougars have the 28th overall pick.

The two-round draft takes place online with the order of selection rotating through each of the CHL’s three leagues using an inverse order of final regular season standings within each league from the 2015-16 season.

The Kootenay Ice hold the number one pick.

Last season a total of 78 players were selected from 14 different countries led by 21 players from Russia and consisting of 50 forwards and 28 defencemen.
