ICBC puts focus on fatigued drivers during BC Day long weekend

The issue of fatigue on BC roads is being tackled by ICBC.

Over the BC Day long weekend, 5 people are killed and 600 are injured in 2,400 crashes.

20 of those injuries take place in the North Central Region.

The symptoms of fatigue can pile up on you pretty quickly if you’re on the road too long according to Spokesperson, Sam Corea.

“You may not be aware that a vehicle has passed you, you might be yawning, think of something else or not staying in your own lane kind of veering off a little bit because your speed is not consistent and your eyes might be getting heavy.”

Corea adds fatigued drivers result in 16 deaths on BC roads every year.
