Northern Health asking residents to get vaccinated to combat H3N2 flu strain

It’s flu season in BC and that means getting your annual vaccine to protect yourself from the strain.

As of December 1st, anyone who enters a Northern Health Facility who has not been vaccinated will be asked to wear a mask.

Northern Medical Health Officer Dr. Andrew Gray says this year’s strain could attack a certain age group.

“The current strain called H3N2 is actually known to cause severe disease in older and those with chronic health conditions like heart disease, lung disease, that sort of thing.”

3,500 people in Canada die every year from the flu and its complications.

The flu vaccine is free to people intending to visit a healthcare facility and is also available at clinics, physician offices, and pharmacies.
