UNBC Timberwolves 3rd year women’s basketball player Vasiliki Louka has been named the U Sports Female Athlete of the Week.
Louka recorded back to back double doubles last weekend in a sweep over the TRU Wolfpack which ended up being the team’s first victories over the Wolfpfack in three seasons.
The T-Wolves forward recorded 14 points and 15 rebounds on Friday and followed it up with a 22 point 13 rebound effort on Saturday.
Louka believes the honour is a reflection of the team and not just her. “For me it’s not an individual award but a team award because my team mates helped me achieve that so I want to say thank you to my team mates. Right now we have a really good environment inside and outside of the court and we play as a team with really good rookies which is translating to wins and better games.”
The award also follows up an achievement fellow player Maria Mongomo took home last season. “Last year Maria got the rookie of the year and this year I got this award. What we want is to put UNBC on the major-league level of women’s basketball, that is our main goal.”
The Timberwolves return to action January 6 and 7 against the Pronghorns in Lethbridge.
