Clippers’ shipping DeBrouwer to Prince George, trade for Colley

A veteran goaltender will be trekking to Northern BC for the 2017-18 season after the Spruce Kings made a trade Tuesday afternoon with Nanaimo.

Prince George has acquired 20-year-old Evan DeBrouwer from the Clippers in exchange for soon-to-be 20-year-old forward Parker Colley.

DeBrouwer recorded 15 wins and 23 losses between the pipes with Nanaimo in 2016-17, putting up a goal-against-average (GAA) of 3.15 and a save percentage (SV%) of 0.894.

The Blenheim, Ontario product however improved his stats in the playoffs with a 2.22 GAA and 0.931 SV%, eventually losing to the Victoria Grizzlies in the Island Division Semi-Finals.

Spruce Kings’ General Manager Mike Hawes says his resume, which extends to the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL), is exactly what the team is looking for.

“We’re excited to be able to add a proven veteran goalie like Evan to our team. He’s a big goalie with a lot of junior A experience which will be a huge benefit to our team. He will be relied on heavily this season to provide leadership on and off the ice.”

Hawes also acknowledges Colley on his two-year-stint with Prince George.

“He always played hard with the Spruce Kings jersey on. That being said I know he is looking forward to the fresh start in Nanaimo. We wish him good luck with his new team.”

DeBrouwer is expected to join the team at training camp, which starts August 24th at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena (RMCA).
