ICBC is reminding drivers to put on their winter tires this weekend.
Winter tire regulations take effect on Sunday as motorists are required to have them installed if they wish to travel on a provincial highway.
The provincial auto insurance company has a few tips to help combat the chillier conditions.
“When it comes to vehicles, it’s a great time to make sure your spare tire is still there and fully inflated and that you do have your jack, make sure your fluids are topped up and you keep an extra jug of windshield washer fluid in your trunk or in your hatch,” said Doug MacDonald, spokesperson. “Also have yourself a first aid kit and an emergency roadside kit as well, it’s important to have those sorts of things along with a couple bottles of water, a couple of protein bars so if you get stranded, you have enough food and water to get you through.”
The value of having winter tires this time of year, can’t be stated enough. “The idea of having winter tires allows you to be able to not only quicker but safer, as we’re driving this time of year we’re reminded of the change of seasons with the leaves coming down and it’s important for us to do a few things with our vehicles and also rather our driving behaviors that will help reduce the chances of us being involved in a crash,” added MacDonald,
In BC, winter tires are labelled with either the Mountain Snowflake symbol or the Mud and Snow Symbol, which is located on the sidewall of the tire.
Drivers who do not have winter tires on their vehicle for designated routes can receive a $121 fine.
