City proclaims April Daffodil month during flag raising ceremony

The City of Prince George showed its support to the Canadian Cancer Society this morning as they proclaimed April Daffodil Month.

The Daffodil was chosen to represent the society because it’s a resilient flower that survives through the winter, and is the first sign of spring.

Sandra Blackwell, Coordinator for the Cancer Society shared a personal experience on why the organization is so important to people.

“I’m a cancer survivor and it is all about the research for me. I’m hear today because one of the first grants that the Canadian Cancer Society gave out in the 1950’s was the key drug that was used to treat my cancer.”

In 2017, the Cancer Society in BC was able to help over 14,000 people through a variety of programs.

Blackwell is hoping this year more people come an take part of all the events they have planned.

“It’s not only about fundraising, but it is coming together and celebrating survivors and supporting each other.”

Some events taking place this year is the Climb for Cancer, Relay for Life, and the Inside Ride.
