$10,000 in damage after garage fire in the VLA

No one was injured in a garage fire that broke out on Tamarack Street adjacent to a house on Spruce Street Sunday morning around 10:30.

The incident resulted in about $10,000 damage.

When fire crews arrived the wooden garage was fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters were able to save the neighbouring houses but the structure itself was destroyed.

Neighbour Darlene Demarzo says the owner of the house died last year leaving the property vacant and susceptible to squatters and trespassers.

She says this is the second fire to happen since the owner’s death. The last one broke out in the house last November.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The case has now been turned over to RCMP.
