Prince George police officer found not responsible for arm fracture

A Prince George police officer isn’t being held accountable for the injuries sustained by a man, who was involved in a vehicle collision.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. released a statement on Monday, having completed its investigation of a police-involved incident in the Northern Capital.

The RCMP within the city reported that on February 28, 2019, around the hour of noon, an officer attempted to perform a traffic stop on a vehicle at 5th Avenue, near Ruggles Street. According to the RCMP, a vehicle was involved in a collision with the marked police vehicle, which then led to the male driver attempting to flee on foot. The officer was able to apprehend the male and arrest him.

Shortly after the arrest, the male complained of pain. Following a hospital visit, it was reported that the male had a fractured arm.

The Chief Civilian Director reviewed the information obtained during the IIO investigation and has established that the injury the man sustained pre-existed any contact with police.

As a result, the IIO has closed its investigation into the matter.
