Province seeking input on 2020 budget from northern residents

A Finance Committee is seeking northern voices on what the provincial government should be prioritizing in the upcoming 2020 budget.

The Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services will be in Prince George and Quesnel in early June as part of the province-wide tour.

Chair of the Committee MLA for Maple Ridge-Mission, Bob D’Eith, said being a diverse province it is essential to hear from all regions.

“Last year when we were talking up north we heard about invasive species, wildfires, highways, and transportation, so it is very important to get those stories and make sure they get in front of the misters in Victoria.”

D’Eith added that the issues people in Prince George and Quesnel are facing are different from those in the Lower Mainlands or Haida Gwaii.

The hearing in Prince George will be on Tuesday, June 18, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in room 208 at the Prince George Conference and Civic Centre.

The hearing in Quesnel is at the West Fraser Centre on Wednesday, June 19, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Dunkley Room.

“One thing that’s really important is to get into rural and remote areas in Northern B.C., East, and all over to see the difference in different areas so when the government comes up with a policy, it will actually work everywhere,” said D’Eith.
