Prince George now home to new primary and urgent care facility

A new urgent and primary care centre is now open in Prince George.

It opened its doors today (Wednesday) and is located within the Parkwood Place Mall on 15th Avenue.

The centre will offer after-hours care in the evenings and weekends for people with non-life threatening conditions who need to see a health care provider within 12-24 hours but doesn’t require the same level of care as those in the emergency departments.

This replaces the Nechako Medical Clinic, which recently closed its doors, which will see 35 practitioners get relocated to the new building.

Northern Health anticipates it will be fully implemented by the fall with expanded hours as well as doctors, a nurse practitioner, nurses, mental health and substance use staff.

In an interview with MyPrinceGeorgeNow, Chief Operating Officer for the Northern Interior of Northern Health, Penny Anguish explains the kind of after-hours care that will be given at the new building.

“People that might have a new problem that’s developed like a symptom, condition or illness or an individual that has a chronic disease that may have a symptom that’s exacerbated or has gotten worse.”

She believes the new facility fills a major void in our area.

“The issue that is often still a problem is getting access to same day or next daycare and appointments, some of the physician and nurse practitioner practices have set up routines so that there is better access.”

Anguish adds the new building is a credit to a great deal of time and effort that was put in by the Prince George Division of Family Practice, the Nechako Medical Clinic and Northern Health.
