Buddy, Humane Society seeking help in cost of amputation

He’s a gentle six-month-old Labrador Retriever cross.

However, Buddy is currently in need of a procedure that would see one of his hind legs amputated.

When the Prince George Humane Society initially received Buddy, the belief was that it was just a single break, however, the organization insisted to do their due diligence to ensure what exactly was causing the pup so much pain.

“When we got the x-rays back, we realized his leg had been completely shattered,” Executive Director at Prince George Humane Society, Melissa Ferguson told MyPGNow.

Ferguson added that the unfortunate reality is they aren’t always provided with an explanation regarding the condition of many of the animals they receive.

“The funds that he needs is quite extensive because not only do we need to raise money for the surgery, but he’s also had to have quite a bit of time at the hospital,” said Ferguson.

With Buddy needing to stay at a vet, as well as the cost of the procedure to amputate his leg, the Humane Society isn’t sure just how much money is needing to be raised but is projecting fees will be in the thousands of dollars.

Luckily, amputation is a relatively quick heal according to the Humane Society, which means Buddy should be up on his three legs in a matter of a few weeks.

Donations can be made through the PG Humane Society’s PayPal link or at their shelter, located at 11-1839 1st Avenue in Prince George. The hours of operation for the PG Humane Society is 11 a.m. to 5 p.m, Tuesday to Saturday.
