The ribs were saucy.
The faces were smiling.
And the first-ever Ribfest has appeared to be a hit with all those attending.
“We opened up at noon yesterday to a lineup at the gates,” Event Manager Kyle Sampson told MyPGNow. “The cool part is its just a good community event. We have all-ages times, we have 19+ times, but everyone gets along and everyone is having fun.”
While the event’s focus is on the ribs, local musicians and musicians have been included to entertain all attendees through the gates at Pacific Western Brewery.

Day 1, which was the event’s country music-themed night, wrapped up with a firework display. Saturday will also be wrapped up with a firework display.

When event staff opened up the gates for Day 2, again, they were welcomed with a lined up crowd patiently waiting to get their hands messy, faces saucy, and bellies filled up on ribs.
“I’ve been a part of a lot of events both in Prince George, as well as outside of Prince George,” said Sampson. “Your first year is always your biggest challenge. How do you show Prince George that you have the reputation and the event that they want to spend their time and money at? To see the numbers of the people, and to see positive comments and compliments on their way out, and the smiling faces, it’s been a clear success so far this year.”
As for the ribs themselves, with numerous ribbers, some making lengthy travel to get to the Northern Capital, Sampson says they’re all different.
“Every one of them is unique in their own way. Yeah they all offer ribs, they all offer similar items, but they’re all unique. To say who’s the best, that’s kind of player’s choice.”
The final day of Ribfest will see the gates open up at 11 a.m. tomorrow (Sunday).
