The Portland Winterhawks erupted for five goals in the final period to whip the Prince George Cougars 8-2 in front of 2,972 fans at CN Centre. The Winterhawks leading scorer, Oliver Bjorkstrand, scored twice and added two assists to give him 17 points in his last six games against PG. The Cats outshot the guests 40-34. Portland also won the Friday game 4-3 in a shootout.  The (20-24-1-1) Cougars stay third in the BC Division despite a 5 game losing streak. The Cougars continue a home-stand against the US Division leading Everett Silvertips Tuesday and Wednesday.
–The Victoria Grizzlies scored five straight goals after trailing 2-1 after one, in a 6-3 victory over the Prince George Spruce Kings before 1,141 fans at the Coliseum. Â The Spruce Kings are home again this afternoon at 3 when they entertain the Coquitlam Express.
–The Major Midget leading Cariboo Cougars won 4-0 over the South Island Royals. The two teams meet again today in Victoria.
–The TRU WolfPack of Kamloops beat the UNBC Timberwolves in Canada West basketball men’s and women’ s
action. TRU took the men’s game 81-71 before 647 fans to earn a split of the doubleheader. The UNBC men won the opener 83-81. The WolfPack dumped the Lady Timberwolves 75-53 to sweep the double. The Friday result was 62-44. The UNBC men are 5-7 and the women 1-11. The TRU men sit 7-5 and the women 11-1.
