With the Canada Day long weekend upon us, it’s important to plan ahead before heading out for any weekend adventures.
“Especially at this time of year when there is lots of traffic, and there may be some more construction along the road, so hammering on that gas pedal isn’t going to necessarily get you to the other end,” ICBC’s Road Safety Coordinator Ingrid Brakop told MyPGNow.
“What it might do is maybe jack your happy while you’re on the road so you’re just going to get impatient. It can make people a little more aggressive when they’re on the road. Just give yourself a little extra time and make that journey part of the experience of heading out along the summer roads.”
Brakop adds that checking the Drive BC website before any long weekend driving is good to check on any possible construction along the way, as well as road conditions.
With this year marking the first Canada Day since the legalization of cannabis, ICBC is also reminding the public that police will be ensuring there isn’t any impaired driving going on.
“If you are behind the wheel, we owe it to each other to be responsible and make good decisions,” said Brakop.
It should also be noted that the BC Transit will be offering $1 bus fare on Canada Day for all of its routes in the City of Prince George.
