A lot has changed in Prince George in 13 years, which has Carolyn Holmes excited for when the BC Museums Association Annual Conference comes to the Northern Capital.
Holmes, the Executive Director at Two Rivers Gallery, led the bid committee to bring the conference back to Prince George. The last time the conference was held in the city was back in 2006.
“I think that it’s important for the city to have museum professionals from across the province to come up here and to showcase to the rest of the province how great our cultural organizations are,” Holmes told MyPGNow. “I also think that as BCMA is a provincial body, that they have a duty to spread the conferences around the province and represent all parts of the province.”
According to Holmes, the BCMA Council was hosted for a site visit last month.
“The BCMA was thoroughly impressed by the organizations in PG, the sense of community, and how closely we all work together,” said Holmes. “They’ll spread the word about the strength and culture that exists in Prince George and convince others to come for the conference in the fall.”
It’s expected that more than 150 delegates from across the province will be coming to Prince George for the conference, which will take place from September 30 to October 2 at the Courtyard by Marriott, Two Rivers Gallery, and The Exploration Place.
Tourism Prince George helped support the committee with their proposal to host the event.
“Meetings and conventions create significant economic impact for the city, and we work hard to support local partners interested in bringing more events like this to town,” said Erica Hummel, Tourism Prince George CEO.
The BCMA includes museums that range in size of operations, from museums run by a single volunteer to ones such as the RBC Museum or Telus Science World, which brings a wide scope of thoughts on operations and diversity.
