Prince George takes to the streets this weekend for Summerfest

Another downtown summer festival is ready to kick off this weekend in Prince George.

Downtown Prince George is calling to residents to ‘take to the streets’ at Downtown Summerfest at the Canada Games Plaza to celebrate local food, artists, and entertainment.

“Downtown Summerfest has really become a summer tradition in our downtown,” Downtown Prince George Executive Director Colleen Van Mook told MyPGNow. “What we want to do is bring people downtown to have fun, enjoy great food, to be entertained, and really to shop in our exhibitor alley. There’s so much to choose from that sometimes it can be difficult to narrow in.”

The spirit of the Taste Pavilion is to highlight local restaurants and food providers while tantalizing the taste buds of festival goers. Van Mook recommends people to avoid the line-ups by purchasing your Taste Tickets in advance at Canadian Western Bank (300 Victoria Street) and Tourism Prince George (1300 1st Avenue). Also, when you purchase in advance, you can be entered to win one of two return flights to Victoria or Vancouver provided by Pacific Coastal Airlines.

According to Downtown Prince George, 22 restaurants and four food trucks will all be in one place.

Now, with all that food, surely some entertainment will be needed.

The musical line-up happening on the TD Mainstage will showcase Good Juju, Steel Wheels Blues Band, Barefoot Fridays, Studio 720 and The Sunset Strip. A sneak peek of Judy Russell Presents Disney’s Beauty and the Beast will also be put on the mainstage.

It would not be a family fun festival without something for the young ones. Plenty of hands-on activities will be set up throughout the Plaza, many of which will be completely free for kids to partake in. The Home Hardware Butterfly House and Rolling Mix Concrete Big Dig will be back, along with some new fun, like the thrilling antics of Paz with the Hockey Circus Show and the roller coaster antics of Clinton W. Gray.

“Downtown Summerfest is the place to be,” insisted Van Mook.

The event will kick off at 11 a.m. on Sunday at the Canada Games Plaza.
