CFL: (Week five)

Hamilton  30  Calgary  23

The Ti-Cats ended a 15-game losing streak to Calgary that included the 2014 Grey Cup.

Hamilton improved to 4-1 while Calgary dropped to 2-2.

Montreal  36  Ottawa  19

Both the Alouettes and RedBlacks are 2-2.

The 1-4 B.C. Lions play their next game on Saturday in Saskatchewan against the 1-3 Roughriders.

TENNIS:

Novak Djokovic won an epic nearly five hour thriller, defeating Roger Federer in a fifth set tie-breaker (13-12) to capture the men’s title at Wimbledon.

Djokovic became the first man in 71 years to take home the trophy from the All England Club after needing to erase championship points.

This triumph earned Djokovic his fifth Wimbledon title and 16th Grand Slam trophy overall,.

He moves closer to the only men ahead of him in tennis history: Federer owns 20, Rafael Nadal has 18.

The 37-year-old Federer competed in his 12th Wimbledon final.

Simona Halep won her first Wimbledon title, and second Grand Slam, with a crushing 6-2, 6-2 victory over Serena Williams in less than  an hour.

The 37-year-old Williams was denied her 8th Wimbledon and 24th Grand Slam title.

The 27-year-old Halep of Romania will rise to world No 4 in the rankings on Monday.

PG LACROSSE:

The Prince George Posse will play for a bronze medal today at the B.C. A2 peewee lacrosse championship in Delta.

The Posse went 2-2-1 in the six-team division round robin after a 9-9 tie against Richmond Saturday afternoon.

Prince George and Richmond will battle in third-place game this afternoon at 1:00.

The Westwood Pub Devils play Northland Nissan Assault in the Prince George Senior Lacrosse best-of-five final starting Tuesday night at 8:00 at Kin 1.

Prior to the game, league awards will be handed out.

Other dates in the championship series are July 18th, 22nd and if necessary, 24th and 25th).

 

GOLF:

The Prince George Cougars 8th annual Alumni Hospital Charity Golf Tournament took place
at the PG Golf and Curling Club.

Dan Hamhuis was among the participants.

Over the past seven years, the Cougars and the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation have partnered to raise close to $500,000 towards healthcare in Northern BC.

For the past three years, fundraising for the sold-out tournament has focused on cardiac care.

The 35-59 Jays are 1-2 on a 10-game road trip that continues tonight in Boston against the

Quesnel is hosting the Under-16 girls C softball provincials.

Prince George and Quesnel are among the 16 teams in the tournament with the championship game to be played today.
