Prince George bike riders burn over one million calories in Go By Bike Week

883 riders and nearly 40,000 kilometres later, and Go By Bike Week (GBBW) was considered a success in Prince George this year.

At the July 15th meeting, Dane Greenwell, GBBW Coordinator, presented the numbers for the annual event to City Council.

They saw 262 teams and 468 new riders who biked a total of 38, 132 kms, with 1,143,916 calories burned.

There were some lower points to the presentation, including no increase in event attendance and less social media engagement and the changing of the name from Bike to Work Week to GBBW was also cited as one of the ‘wipe outs’ for the organization, but the numbers showed reason for optimism.

From 2014 to 2019, ridership in the city more than doubled and from 2018 alone there was a 35% increase.

“We had more events that we had in years past, and our numbers really improved, we’re hoping to get to 100 for our ten-year anniversary,” said Greenwell.
