Update: BC Hydro confirms power restored after substation fault

UPDATE:

According to BC Hydro, power has been restored to 5,900 customers as of 4:56 p.m.

The cause of the outage is being classified as a fault at the substation due to a bird.

The area impacted was north of 22nd Avenue, west of Highway 97, east of Foothills Boulevard, and south of Crieff Place.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE:

5,500 BC Hydro customers in Prince George are currently being impacted by a power outage in the city.

Bob Gammer, a spokesperson for BC Hydro, confirmed to MyPGNow that the hydro company received word of the outage at approximately 4:30 p.m.

“There’s no word on what is the cause, it’s too early to say, but it does appear that the western part of The Bowl, so basically west of Highway 97, is where most of the impact is,” said Gammer.

Gammer confirms that crews should be on their way to investigate into the cause of the outage, or mobilizing in the next 30 minutes.

Given the location of the outage, the issue could be stemming from the Foothills Sub-Station near the Aquatic Centre, according to Gammer.

Information in this article is accurate as of 5:23 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16.
