PG Spruce Kings:

The Prince George Spruce Kings have completed their coaching staff under new head coach Alex Evin.

The Spruce Kings have hired Jessie Leung as Associate Coach and Nick Drazenovic of Prince George as Skills and Development Coach.

Leung, 34, spent the last two seasons as the Associate Coach with the Trail Smoke Eaters.

The 32-year-old Drazenovic, who had been the PG Cougars Director of Player Development the last couple of years, is the owner-operator of Northern Elite Hockey that supports the north in hockey development.

Gretzky Hlinka Cup (under-18 men’s hockey tournament) in the Czech Republic

Canada finished 3-0 in the round-robin, outscoring the opposition 21-1.

They will play Sweden in the semifinals on Friday (10 a.m. PT) with medal games to follow on Saturday.

Canada won its first two games 6-0 over Finland and 8-0 over Switzerland.

The Canadian team has won the tournament 10 of the last 11 times.

Baseball BC Provincials:

After winning the BC Minor Baseball 15U AA Bantam provincial championship on home field, the Prince George Bantam Knights are ready for their next challenge.

The Knights, coached by Curtis Sawchuk, compete at the Baseball BC Provincials in Chilliwack.

The 12-team tournament began today and continues until Sunday with the winner to advance to the Western Canadian Championship Aug. 15-18 in Strathmore, Alberta.

Prince George won its opener 17-2 over Ridge Meadows.

The PG Surg Med Knights begin play today at the BC Minor Baseball 18U AA Midget provincial championship in Burnaby.

MLB:

Toronto Blue Jays  4  Tampa Bay Rays  3 

Bo Bichette smacked a double in the 3rd inning to help the Jays take the rubber match of the three-game series.

The 21-year-old shortstop extended his hit streak to 10 games to start his MLB career.

The 47-70 Jays host the AL East-leading New York Yankees tonight to begin a 10-game homestand.

Tampa leads the second AL wild-card spot by half-a-game over the Oakland A’s.

CFL:

Thursday night football in the C FL to kick off week nine has the Calgary Stampeders at the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (5:30 PT).

Both teams are 5-2 and tied for first place in the West Division.

The Stamps will again be without quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell, who has returned to practice but remains sidelined with a shoulder injury.

A pair of games are set for Friday: (4-3) Saskatchewan at (3-3) Montreal (4:00 PT) followed by (3-4) Ottawa at (4-3) Edmonton (7:00).

The (1-6) BC Lions will try to end a three-game losing skid when they visit the East-Division leading (5-2) Hamilton Tiger-Cats Saturday (4:00 PT).

The last-place Lions are tied with Toronto for most points allowed (241).
