Local hunters protest allocation outside Natural Resource Forum

Nearly 100 local hunters crowded outside the Prince George Civic Centre and the Natural Resource Forum today protesting the government’s new wildlife allocation policy.

“We aren’t happy with the new numbers that are going to the guide outfitters.” Said Steve, a protester “It’s a unprecedented number of allocations. Across North America the standard in 5-10% and in BC they want to give 25-40%”

Inside the Civic Centre, Premier Christy Clark was confident her Minister of Forests could handle the issue,

“Well no, it’s not a huge percentage change; it’s not a huge change across the board either. But with 110 animals at issue, Steve Thompson (the Minister of Forests and Lands) can come up with a solution to this.”

Clark went on to vouch the importance of guide outfitters to the province,

“Guide outfitters are small, family run business in rural and remote communities that provide vital economic value for our province and we believe in jobs.”

She finished by reiterating that Minister Thompson would be able to find a balance between business and locals.
