MLB:

The Jays are 11-6 in their last 17 games.

The (51-73) Blue Jays are 4-3 on a 10-game homestand that continues Friday against the Seattle Mariners.

Midget Baseball:

The BC champion Prince George Surg Med Knights will compete at the Western Canadian double-A midget baseball championship (Friday-Sunday) in Strathmore, Alberta.

Prince George will face the Unity (Saskatchewan) Cardinals Friday afternoon at 1:15 PT in its opener.

They will also battle Altona, Manitoba Bisons, host Strathmore Reds and Leduc, Alberta Giants in the five-team tournament.

Jr. Golf:

Cody Bailey of Prince George missed the 36-hole cut by five shots at the 81st Canadian Junior Boys Championship in Hartland, N.B.

Bailey had rounds of 78 and 74 for an 8-over-152 total.

Defending champion Christopher Vandette of Beaconsfield, Que., (62, 69, 72= 13-under-203) has a two-stroke lead entering the fourth and final round.

NBA:

Stroke another one off the list.

Miami Heat forward Kelly Olynyk of Kamloops will be unable to participate for Team Canada at the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup due to a knee injury.

Canada plays its first game in the tournament on Sept 1st.

Olynyk should be fully recovered by the start of the NBA season.

CFL: (Week 10)

The (1-7) BC Lions will try to end a four-game losing skid when they visit the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Thursday (5:30 PT) to start week 10 of the CFL season.

The 6-2 Blue Bombers lead the West Division by two points over three teams.

Lions QB Mike Reilly is practising this week despite a reported ankle injury.

In other action this week: Edmonton at Toronto Friday (4:30 PM PT), Hamilton at Ottawa (Saturday 1:00) and Montreal at Calgary (Saturday 4:00).

NFL:

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck is dealing with a high-ankle problem.

The Colts aren’t sure if Luck will be ready for the regular-season opener Sept. 8th at the LA Chargers.

Wide receiver Antonio Brown has rejoined the Oakland Raiders.

Brown’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told reporters that his client is never seriously considered retiring over not being able to wear a helmet deemed unsafe by the NFL.

Pan Am Games:

Regan Yee 24, of Hazelton, finished 5th in the women’s 3,000-metre steeplechase (time of 10:00.08) at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.

Yee’s performance was one of 30 top-eight finishes by the Canadian Athletics team.

Overall, Canada finished third in medals with 152 (35 gold, 64 silver, 53 bronze), down from 217 four years ago in Toronto.

The United States dominated the medal chase with 293 (including 120 gold) followed by Brazil with 171 (55 gold).
